Jeryn Fe Gorney

Jeryn Fe (Faith in Spanish) Gorney. The prettiest baby I've ever seen. I can't wait to hold her, kiss her, read to her, watch her grow, and spoil her rotten!!!! She is my first niece and Aunt Kala will love her to pieces!!!
Grandpa Bob and Jeryn 2.10.10 at the NICU at Children's Mercy.
Grandma Lora and Jeryn Wednesday night 2.10.10
This was Jeryn on her birthday 2.8.10... she is just a few hours old. This was before her transfer to Children's Mercy.
Jerad and Ash the morning of her delivery... Monday 2.8.10

Rewind to Monday... Ashley had a perfect pregnancy and her labor was going great right up until the time she needed to start pushing. From there our world was turned upside down. Ashley had an amniotic fluid embolism (google it) which only happens to 1 in 80,000 women and most women die within an hour if it is phase 1. We thank God that Ashley went to phase 2 instead which basically takes out all the clotting mechanisms in your blood which was causing her to bleed uncontrollably for 12+ hours. She had surgery Tuesday which stopped the bleeding. As of now (Wed night) there is no longer any bleeding but her kidneys are failing so she will more than likely start dialysis tomorrow. We are all hopeful that she will only have to do this temporarily to get those kidneys kick-started!

Jeryn meanwhile had to be delivered doing an emergency C-section. She had the BEST doctors who had her out in under 60 seconds. She came out not breathing and went 1-2 minutes without oxygen. Getting oxygen to the brain is one of the most important things for newborns so when she wasn't breathing on her own, they put her on a respirator. But several hours later she was showing signs of brain trauma. She was immediately rushed to the NICU at Children's Mercy so they could start a procedure called brain cooling (google that one too :) ) This is a 72 hour procedure which is done to hopefully stop/prevent any negative brain damage. Then she is gradually warmed up and an MRI is done a few days later to determine any damage to the brain. So far she is responding well to the treatment and is doing everything she should be physically. We are hoping that maybe we can actually hold her this weekend. I'm dying to just see her. Unfortunately, without a parent present, only siblings and grandparents are allowed to see Jeryn. I totally understand and want what's best for Jeryn of course... but man I'm dying to see those tiny toes and fingers :) And if not seeing her wasn't bad enough, the check-in nurse asked how old I was (nobody under age 14 is allowed)... she was shocked when I said "Uhhh 24... this is my husband." If I look 14 just kick me. Seriously... 14?!? Ouch to the ole ego.

Jerad has been a pillar of support to both Ashley and Jeryn. He is splitting his time between both of his girls and is so thankful that they are both still with him. He is so brave and is taking such good care of them. And Ashley is looking better each day... she is THE strongest women I know. She is already attempting to sit up and she rated her pain at a 2 to one of her nurses. We all know she is probably much worse than that but she is tough and is pushing through. She is still listed as critical in the ICU so please keep her and Jeryn in your prayers!!! Check back tomorrow for more updates and thanks for your thoughts and prayers... He is listening and they are working!!!!
