Jeryn's Birthday Party
Last weekend was the birthday celebration for our favorite little girl! All the Oliviers and the Gorneys got together to celebrate Jeryn Fe turning one year old! For those of you who read Ashley's blog too... I'll try to choose some different pics than the ones Ashley used. Shouldn't be hard since we took 200 pictures!
The little fashionista was all decked out with a new birthday bow, custom made onesie, pink tutu, and pink Converse hightops. Why can't adults wear outfits like this?! ;)
Jeryn's so spoiled she had a cake, cupcakes, and a giant cupcake!
Party decorations are always my favorite and I loved what Ashley did for the cake table. She made all the decorations herself! I think she outdid herself on this one :)
It was really entertaining to watch her get into the present opening and playing. Here she got the rocking chair that Abuelo Bob refinished for her and the owl pillow that Abuela Lora made. The chair was actually Ashley's chair she got at her first birthday so it was cool to see it get passed down!
Here the birthday girl saw the gift that her Tio Trenton made for her! I think she looks excited :)
Here's an up close of the box. My contribution... the pink bow.
Here's Trenton (and the fur babies!) with his finished product after months of hard work. A post to come on the whole toy box building process to come later...
Tio Trenton, Tia Kala, and Birthday Girl Jeryn
Cake time! She loved the attention she was getting when everyone was singing to her!
Chow down time!
The standard self timer pic so Jeryn could remember all the guests at her 1st birthday party. Can you tell she's loved just a little bit??
The whole Gorney gang... a very special day that was enjoyed by everybody!!!

Happy 1st Birthday Jeryn!!!
What a difference a year makes! A year ago today the little miracle baby Jeryn Fe was born into this world! Her and her amazing mom have faced lots of challenges this last year and have overcome them all. We are so thankful to have them both here with us... healthy AND happy!
One thing that HASN'T changed... the weather. This picture was taken last year on Feb. 8, 2010. Looks about like this year doesn't it? Winter... I am soooo over you.
This was Jeryn Fe the night she was born before being transferred to Children's Mercy.
The precious newborn one year ago :)
Jeryn Fe we love you so much and have loved getting to watch you laugh, cry, learn, and grow this last year. Can't wait to make many, many, many more memories with you as you grow up. Tio Trent and Tia Kala love you very much!!!

Blizzard 2011
Some pics from the snowpocalypse we all experienced this week! I've actually been enjoying myself- Trent took two snow days from work and we've been enjoying our laziness! I also started working on our honeymoon scrapbook which was very ironic when I'd look out the window at what was outside.
Poor Trent snow-blowed our driveway a couple times throughout Tuesday but it would just build right back up.
Bentley is such an ornery little thing. The snow drifts don't even faze this five pound devil.
He then got stuck and looked at me for help. He's crazy.
Harlee girl meanwhile refused to leave the safety and warmth of the garage.
Every teacher's response to a snow day!
Trent thinks that when our landscaping lights get buried they look like little Smurf houses haha.
We felt bad for the neighbors behind us- they totally got buried by drifts. Their other car even got stuck in front of our house.
Trent's last snow-blowing of Tuesday at 10:30 at night. I'm sure the neighbors loved us.
Back at it on Wednesday morning.
The drifts on our sidewalks were crazy.
This is what Bentley does after a blizzard... sleep and help me scrapbook.
Snow-blower Trent starting in at Jerad and Ashley's house and the other 7 houses he did that day. He's quite a guy!
I stole these cool pics from Ashley.
Trent even made the news with the pictures that Ashley sent in! He's famous :)

January Date Night- Ice and Fights
This month was my turn to plan our monthly date. I had been scratching my head on what we could do... Trent likes sports and beer... where could we do both this time of year for cheap? Then a light bulb went off... a HOCKEY GAME!!! We had never been to a hockey game together so I figured this was perfect. My parents used to take me and my brother to KC Blades games all the time back in the day. Cotton candy and people fighting at the same place? To an 8 year old that's about as good as it gets :)
Settling into our seats with our hotdogs, nachos, and beer. Keeping it healthy.
The Missouri Mavericks is the hockey team in Independence, MO... just a short drive away and totally worth it. The arena that they play in is small- there's seriously not a bad seat in the place. I would know since I bought the cheapo tickets. They have had 7 sellout games in a row so if you want to go I strongly recommend buying tickets in advance.
We'd only seen a couple fights so we did our best fight face in hopes of encouraging some more fist throwing...
Then just a couple plays later there were two fights right in front of us. Our picture clearly worked.
Something new I learned about hockey- when a guy scores 3 goals in the same game it's called a hat trick and people will throw their hats onto the rink. After learning this tidbit my question rambling started. What do they do with the hats? Do the people get their hats back? Is there a place you can go to pick up your hat? Does the player ever keep a hat for good luck? This is usually about the time that Trent tries to drown out my voice... or wish he had ear plugs ;)
The stadium is so low key that walking down the stairs from our seats we almost ran right into some players. We were getting yelled at to clear the way, move from the aisle, get back, etc. How was I supposed to know where I was standing was for the players to leave? We got pushed behind the chain link security rope about the time this was finally dawning on me and I was trying to dig through my purse for my camera. I got it out just in time to get a picture of the hat trick guy- #37. If we go again I'm totally standing at the rope with the 12 year old boys for high fives and fist bumps. The players were all SO friendly! Overall we had a blast and can't wait to go back to another game with some friends!

Our favorite house guests
Two weekends ago we had the excitement of some house guests for the weekend!!! Our friends, Paul and Britney, and their two kiddos, Connor and Chloe, came to visit for the whole weekend! They live in Texas and we haven't seen them in a year and a half :( Imagine not seeing some of your best friends for that long. It's hard.
I met Paul and Britney at a party while I was at KU my freshman year, through my boyfriend at the time. We all became quick friends and Britney and I would spend many days on Mass St. together :) The next year she ended up transferring to a photography school in Denver and I transferred down to Emporia for a smaller school. But for some friends, distance doesn't matter. Britney and Paul are proof of that! We love them dearly!
We all woke up early on Saturday morning so we could start our day of fun. We began the morning at Crown Center. We first hit up the Crayola store for Connor to play.
Getting some help from Mom.
Chloe stayed warm and snug while her brother played.
Connor working on his masterpiece.
After some playing and shopping around we headed to Fritz's for lunch. Britney had seen my blog post about me and Trent's date there back in November so we thought the kids might like it.
Connor wearing his conductor hat.
Chloe was adorable in the hat!
Whole family shot.
After lunch we headed to Union Station for the Dinosaurs Unearthed exhibit...
Before the exhibit we stopped in the Build-a-Dino store for the kiddos to build their very own dinosaur souvenirs.
They were so cute in their stroller holding their dinos!
But by the time we got to the exhibit... they were out! It's amazing how kids can sleep through a noisy exhibit with dinosaur roars all around them.
T-Rex
Trent was so proud of himself for taking this shot haha.
The exhibit was really cool for both kids and adults. The dinos all moved, made noises and looked lifelike. Their eyes would blink and you could see their ribs move as they "breathed." It was kinda creepy! But maybe that's just me cause Jurassic Park scared the crap out of me back in the day. I still don't really like it.
The whole gang... kids still zonked out.
T&K
The Miguel's... Pauly looks a little worn out from pushing the stroller all day.
The kids woke up right after we left the exhibit so we headed to Oak Park for some shopping, then out to dinner at Houlihan's.
The 3 men- Connor looks like such a big boy here!
And the three girls :)
It was such a FUN weekend with some of our bestest friends. Thank you so much for coming to see us, we love you guys!!!!!!
