As you may know from posts here and here, we love heading to Emporia to hang out with Jeremy, Wendy, and the rest of the Dynamic Discs crew. This year was the biggest one yet- 432 players, the PDGA in attendance, 3 courses, and a tornado.
Friday night we surprised Jeremy cause he thought Trent wasn't gonna be able to make it. Like he could miss the GBO- especially the 10th one!! So we started at the Emporia Country Club for players' poker night, then headed to Natasha's, and finally shut it down at 707. I felt like I was back in college. It was awesome to be back in the ol' stomping grounds. Even if it wasn't the Dugout ;)
Saturday morning was rough, not gonna lie. Trent was happy he skipped 707, we think he missed out!
We got to help out at the tournament by driving the disc golf players back to the clubhouse on the golf carts. Can't believe Jeremy trusted us with a golf cart- he clearly doesn't have a copy of my driving record!
Despite the 40 mph winds (awful!) the players made the best of it and had a great experience thanks to all of the DD crew's hard work.
Saturday night was a big dinner, some contests, and a live band at The Granada.
The GB boys, too bad Trent took off his shirt or they could've all 3 matched. Super cute ;)
Kim and Charles met up with us too since we were in town.
My boy :)
Enjoying the concert with Kim
Shots for the girls!
The band. One of my favorite parts was when Wendy made me (yes, she forced me to!) write a song request on a napkin for the band and signed it from Jeremy haha. Sadly, not all country bands know Copperhead Road. We were very disappointed.
SO much fun that day/night with these ladies! But this was about the time that we were getting warnings/texts/phone calls from friends and family saying that Emporia was about to get hit with storms/tornadoes and we needed to get to safety. So we peaced out pretty fast, ran back to Jeremy's shop, couldn't find keys, moved the RV, and finally headed back to their house. On the way the sirens started going off and we knew we had to book it. Jeremy had some mad driving skills.
We told Wendy she needed to grab some emergency supplies while we hunkered down in their basement. This is what she grabbed- plus 3 bowls of popcorn and a bag of Doritos. And this is why we are friends :) Thankfully, the sirens were only going off for about 15-20 minutes, we had the furbabies with us, and the storm quickly broke up once it hit Emporia. But it was funny to see all the out-of-staters disappointed that they didn't see a tornado. I was quite alright with that! Thanks to the Ruscos and the DD crew for a fun filled weekend!!
